Name: Erica McLaughlin

Title: Marketing Coordinator

How long have you worked at Catalyst?

I have been working at Catalyst for a little over a year.

How long have you worked in marketing and what type of projects have you worked on?

I have been working in marketing for about a year. Different projects I have worked on include creating visual assets for events we attend and host, helping with event planning, and managing the Catalyst website.

How did you get your start in marketing?

I got my start in marketing here at Catalyst! Previously, I was working at a TV production company. While looking for a new opportunity, I learned a lot about Catalyst and was impressed by the agency’s culture and history. I knew it would be a great environment to foster and grow my marketing skills. I have learned a lot in the past year.

What do you like most about working at Catalyst?

I like that the work is always different and creative. Working in the marketing department, I get to have my hands in everything. From creating graphics, to helping out with pitches and everything in between, my day is never the same.

What has been your greatest achievement or success in marketing?

I haven’t been at Catalyst very long, but my time here has been an incredible learning experience. Two of my successes are helping lead the marketing effort for our technical SEO conference, TechSEO Boost, and leading the organization of our weekly lunch and learns, Trailblazer Tuesday.

In your opinion, what is the most important marketing trend or change for 2019?

I think the most important marketing trend for 2019 will be to add video into your business marketing plan. I think that visual assets add a certain touch that text cannot achieve.

If you had to give one recommendation to an advertiser who wants to use search or social marketing to achieve business results, what would it be?

From a marketing perspective, I would say to market to the right audience. Not every single customer fits your business model, so when you find your audience, be sure to make them want to stay.

Share a fun fact about yourself

I have a 10-month-old puppy named Jean-Luc. I named him after one of my favorite TV characters, Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek.
