Driving Diversity in Digital Marketing (Panel Discussion)

As marketers, who doesn’t enjoy watching “Mad Men”? It takes us back to the early days of advertising and provides an entertaining history lesson on our industry’s beginnings. We watch with wonder and amusement over how different things must have been on Madison Avenue. But, have things changed that much? Sure, we’re now in a digital driven, mobile-first, interconnected world, but executive teams are just as homogeneous as they were in the Don Draper days. The good news? We can be the catalyst for change. By coming together, and sharing our experiences to better understand each other, we have the power to strengthen diversity in digital marketing, and change our entire industry for the better.

Join us for an insightful conversation as we explore ways to build a culturally rich and diverse workplace. We’ll explore the unspoken institutional and cultural rules that are currently hindering diversity. We’ll also discuss how to tear down walls between ages, races, and genders. And, we’ll provide tips for finding mentors and role models who can help you grow your career and help you drive more diversity in digital.


Stephanie HofmannStephanie Hofmann

Director, Agency Development – WPP, Google

Stephanie Hofmann leads the WPP Holding Co team responsible for driving digital media investment across GroupM (Mindshare, Mediacom, MEC, Maxus) and leads the team responsible for cross Hold Co digital capability development.

Previously, Steph launched and led Google’s Shopping Solutions team dedicated to developing digital solutions that enabled retailers and manufacturers to win the shopping moments that matter. Prior roles at Google, over her nine+ year tenure, include Director of Agency Development for IPG & Specialty Agency (Shopper and Multicultural agency development) and leading Agency learning & development. Before joining the Agency Development team, Steph was Head of Industry Marketing for Google’s CPG vertical where she led research efforts focused on proving the efficacy of digital advertising for CPG manufacturers.


Chris HumberChris Humber

Head of Search, Catalyst/GroupM

As Head of Search at Catalyst/GroupM, Chris has 15+ years of digital marketing experience overseeing strategy development and search & social integration for brands and companies like NBC Universal, Viacom/MTV Networks, Saks Fifth Avenue, J.Crew, Madewell, and Apple. Prior to joining Catalyst, Chris served as a Group Director at 360i, specializing in optimization strategies for emerging technologies, video, and social media. With a passion for delivering best-in-class service across a myriad of industries, Chris currently leads a team of practice directors working to define holistic search best practices, cross-channel integration, and new search product offerings to meet client needs.

Erika EscartinErika Escartin

Global Marketing Director

Erika Escartin is a Global Marketing Director with 12 years experience in the ultra-orphan rare disease space. Erika began her career at Genzyme Corporation working with emerging global markets and taking on several roles within the organization as well as in their Mexico City office. She then worked at Alexion Pharmaceuticals for several years where she led all facets of marketing and sales, several global launches in orphan disease states and multiple product launches. At Alexion she also championed and led marketing commercial initiatives both in a regional and Global roles. Erika is currently an independent consultant working with biotech companies who are looking to commercialize their products in the rare disease space both US and Globally.

Leo MarinLeo Marin

Industry Lead on the US Multicultural Team, Google

Leo currently works as an Industry Lead on the US Multicultural Team, a team that is bringing culturally relevant ads to minority audiences in the United States. He has been at Google since 2014 and was a Captain in the US Army prior to his current role. Leo has led teams of soldiers in combat zones and has experience with developing high performance teams. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and is currently pursuing his Masters in Organizational Psychology at Columbia University.

Leslie FordeLeslie Forde

Head of Business Development & Product Marketing, Channel One News, Houghton Mifflin

Leslie has over 20 years of marketing, brand management and business development experience. As Head of Business Development & Product Marketing for Houghton Mifflin’s Channel One News, she leads audience development, customer engagement and new platform partnerships.

Prior to HMH, she oversaw marketing and business development for Care.com’s Business Services division and has held leadership roles at Cspace (an Omnicom social collaboration agency), America’s Test Kitchen and Northern Light Technology. She has also held product marketing and brand management positions with Xerox and Bausch & Lomb.
